Don't get me wrong, Klunkers are cool. I can think of some people out there doing that term justice, but at the same time I see that word becoming synonymous with novelty. The 'Bat is certainly not a novelty, its a bike designed with purpose, and that purpose isn't to be a damn \"Bar Bike\". The Wombat is my idea of a bike that you can ride 60 miles to some single track, a set of jumps, a skatepark, or a street spot and ride it when you get there. It's got a high bottom bracket and relatively short back end to keep it nimble and easy to get off the ground. It's slacked out enough to be stable on long chunky cliffside single track, but not so much that it's lazy and can't make it around the hairpin at the end of the straight. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBuild Notes:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDesigned around a 27.5x2.6\" tire. You may be able to cram a 2.8\" in there but it will be a bit tight in the rear triangle. If you're looking for a super speedy XC style setup the 2.2?\" UltraDynamico MARS is ideal. If you want to run some fenders you could probably fit something like a 2.4\" tire in there with some Honjo Flat 80s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Wombat is designed with V-Brakes in mind. You can use Canti brakes if you'd like, but the V's stop better which you will want if you're riding this thing down the side of a mountain as intended. The V's stop just as well as a disc brake right up until you get into some icey snowy conditions and your rims get cold and freeze over a bit, but even then they work fine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt has a 73mm BB shell, so it takes a mountain crank.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 'Bat has internal dropper routing with the intention of being fit with something around a 100mm dropper post or less.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt also has internal dynamo routing. Ride it at night.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIt's got three pack mounts on the side of the fork to throw a Cargo Mount or Many Thing Cage on and strap some stuff to. You can also chuck a little bag support on using the hole in the fork crown and the brake posts. All of that together with a frame or saddle bag and I don't see why you couldn't take this thing on an all out tour.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMax Chainring Size is 36t. You may be able to get a 38t on \u003c\/span\u003ethere, if you're running a square taper crank.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you are having a bit of trouble picking a gear ratio: a 32t chainring and 18t freewheel is a good gearing to start with (2:1) and you can go from there. If that feels too hard, bump up to a 20t freewheel. If it feels too light and you spin out a lot, go with a 16t freewheel or a 34-36t chainring. Or for the multi gear'd enthusiast, you could throw a Problem Solvers derailleur hanger on it and use the dropper routing to run housing down and tape it to your chain stay using Newbaums. And that conversation did spark the idea of me helping redesign the Scapegoat. My thoughts on the original Scapegoat were that it was perfect for Goat himself (the original madman genius co-designer of the bike) but no one else is going to ride across Antarctica in flip flops and a top hat so let’s rein it in a little and make this insanely awesome hyper-niche off road machine a bit more “normal” (it’s still insane) so the rest of us can try to live life as far out as we’re comfortable attempting. So without getting into the weeds of all the numbers here’s what we came up with as far as geometry: \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSteeper head angle for easier front loaded steering \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSlightly shorter stack and reach\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLonger seat tube c2c for a larger main triangle\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSlightly longer rear end to accommodate 29x3!\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd most importantly…\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA nice high bottom bracket.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNever yee shall strike a pedal again. Maybe they seemed an appropriate symbol for Crust’s singular presence and devotion to keeping the antiquated technology of steel bikes alive? I wanted to rename the bike “the computer wagon” but Matt hates fun so we kept it the Scapegoat. When geeking on old Apples I realized that their weird tan\/green\/beige color would be a great “natural” look for the Scapegoat. So we went w the exact Pantone that old Apple computers used. P453. It was hard to find official color info online at first. But then I remembered that my friend’s dad is actually the original designer who developed the colors for Apple so I emailed him and he sent me a long adorable dad email reply about the whole process at Apple that involved words like “neurons” and  “spectrometer.”  Rad dad.  Oh, and the purple with the pink faded fork was kind of a joke and something brighter because Matt didn’t like the Apple color at first but when we got the sample frames he realized I was right about P453 and we almost didn’t do the purple. But it looks fucking sick so he ran it too. So awesome. Thank you Matt and Cheech. You could go 1x with a maximum 34 tooth chainring or if you're going Fat it's recommended to run it single speed or with an internally geared hub.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ScapeBot is based around 27.5+ with your max tire size being ~3.8\", but can be set up 26\"+ with clearance up to a 3.8\" tire Front and Rear. You can also set it up 29\" with a 3\" tire max. You may remember the Small Scapegoat used to be 26+ specific, which interfered with larger wheel tire clearances, but is now just the same as all the rest. We still really recommend setting the Smaller size up 26+ to avoid toe overlap, but you can obviously do whatever you want.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Scapegoat has Boost Spacing front and rear. 15x110 front and 12x148 rear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Rocker Dropouts make it easy to set the Goat up Single Speed or with a Rohloff or some other internally geared boost hub.
